On November 18, 1978, 908 members of the People’s Temple cult lost their lives in Jonestown, Guyana. The cult suicide, let by Indiana native Jim Jones, was the largest single loss of American civilian life in a non-natural disaster until the events of September 11, 2001, the tragedy at Guyana also ranks among the largest mass murders/mass suicides in history.
Today in remembrance of those who lost their lives, the Midwest Music Conspiracy releases ‘The Ballad of Jim Jones’, a song written originally by Anton Newcombe of the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
This version of the song was recorded on November 15 at Farm Fresh Studios in Bloomington, Indiana with Colin Clark on vocals, guitar, and harmonica, Ryan ‘Beatz’ Beck on percussion, and Jake Belser at the console.
Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
